Every November, the winding roads and hills in Mae Hong Son feature brilliant yellow wild sunflowers blooming in bunches, covering the whole area. November is the time when wild sunflowers (known in Thai as Dok Bua Tong) bloom on the hills and valleys of Mae Hong Son in Northern Thailand. Dok Bua Tong flowers range in color from yellow to orange and are smaller than regular sunflowers. Native to Central America and the Caribbean, Dok Bua Tong was brought to Thailand by missionaries. Dok Bua Tong flowers only bloom from November to December. During this period, the hills and valleys of Mae Hong Son turn brilliant yellow, becoming a breathtaking sight to behold.
